If the app does not create an invoice, you see the reason and the next step – under Invoices when you load the order, and in the Automation history. For the reasons below, no invoice number is assigned. If only the technical creation fails after the number was reserved, the number stays reserved and the retry uses it – see Invoice numbers.
Common reasons
| Reason | What you can do |
|---|---|
| Company details missing | Complete them under Settings › Company and tax details. The app shows what is missing. |
| Order not paid yet | Wait until Shopify reports the payment, or set up pay by invoice. |
| Gift card purchase | The app creates no invoice for selling a gift card; it needs its own voucher or payment document. |
| Tips, duties or fees the app cannot invoice | Invoice these orders outside the app. |
| Zero total | The app creates no invoice for orders without an amount. |
| Several VAT rates on one product line | Not supported; check the product in Shopify or invoice outside the app. |
| 0% VAT without a recognizable reason | Review the order. How the app treats such cases is set under Company and tax. |
| Order has an excluded tag | Intended. Remove the tag if an invoice should be created after all. |
| Order is before the start date | Invoice it deliberately via Catch up invoices for older orders. |
Once you have fixed the reason, load the order under Invoices again.
A credit note is missing
See Credit notes › Cases the app shows for review.
A customer cannot find the invoice
- Is the invoice finished? Invoices › Recent documents shows the status.
- Does your shop use the new customer accounts? See Customer account and invoice link.
- Create new customer link prepares the customer link for the invoice and tries to store it on the order if that has not succeeded yet. Watch for a notice from the app.
